DANCE F.A.Q
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q:
Do you have to audition to attend SOCAPA? What experience is required?
A:
No, students do not have to audition to attend our programs. We offer 3 levels, Step One, Intermediate, and Advanced in our New York Location. Vermont and Los Angeles offer Intermediate level. For New York, at least one year of dance experience is required. For Los Angeles and Vermont, a minimum of 3 years of consecutive training is required.
Q:
How do I know which level I will be in?
A:
There is a placement and assessment class on the first day of the Program that includes a warm up, across-the-floor progressions focusing on technique, and short combinations performed in small groups. Students are evaluated by the SOCAPA Dance faculty. In New York, students are then placed in the appropriate level. In Los Angeles and Vermont, this assessment class is used to determine the level of instruction from which the program will start.
Q:
How many students are in a class?
A:
The class size depends on enrollment and placement, but classes are generally no larger than 18.
Q:
Is the program competitive?
A:
SOCAPA combines the best of an intense and productive program and summer fun! Our dance instructors create a fun and challenging program that is bolstered by support and encouragement. The students in the class develop friendships and working relationships that last for years. After class lets out, it is SUMMER, with great evening activities planned for you to take in all that the local area has to offer.
