by the Boston Globe, SOCAPA's Berkshire East Programs are
hosted at Smith College, situated in the picturesque small
city of Northampton, Massachusetts. With two rivers, nearby
lakes, mountain views and more restaurants, theaters and
performance venues than urban centers a dozen times its
size, the Amherst/Northampton area is the artistic Mecca
of the North East.
Students in the
overnight program stay in the Smith College dormitories
and partake in the "all you care to eat" meal
plan. The gates of Smith College open onto lively downtown
Northampton in the heart of New England's scenic Pioneer
Valley. With a population of 30,000, Northampton combines
small-town charm with metropolitan cultural and educational
opportunities. You'll find plays, music and dance; shops
both trendy and traditional; a smorgasbord of ethnic eateries;
and movie theaters showing first-run, art and foreign films.
