Central London Campus - University College London:
SOCAPA London is hosted at University College London, commonly known as UCL, one of the most prestigious universities in the United Kingdom. UCL forms the Golden Triangle with Oxford and Cambridge, two other universities that share UCL's world renowned reputation for excellence. UCL is located in the heart of Central London's Bloomsbury district, home to the British Museum, the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, and countless shops, cafes, theatres & galleries. UCL's famous alumni range from Mahatma Gandhi to the members of Coldplay to film director Christopher Nolan whose credits include Memento & Batman Begins (part of which he shot on the UCL campus).

Ramsay Residence Hall (20 Maple Street, London):
SOCAPA Resident Students stay in Ramsay Hall, just a few blocks away from our classrooms at Astor College. All rooms are private singles with common bathrooms and small pantry kitchens on each floor. Bed linen and hand towels are supplied and are changed weekly by the residential staff. There are many common rooms and lounges where students can gather to study, socialize or watch a movie. There is even a spacious entertainment room in the basement, complete with a disco ball and dance floor (makes a great film set). The nearest tube stations are Warren Street and Great Portland Street. Euston Station and Regent's Park are less than a ten minute walk away.

Dining Hall & Meals:
SOCAPA London's Room & Breakfast plan includes the above accommodations, daily breakfast , and one dinner on the town per week. Breakfast is held in the Ramsay dining hall, conveniently located in the first floor of the residence hall. For lunch and dinner, students are free to dine at local cafes and ethnic eateries or they can grab a slice, a falafel, a salad or a sandwich from local take-out shops and eat in the park. The cost of lunch and dinner is NOT included in the Room & Breakfast plan. SOCAPA resident students will be given a tour of our favorite local "cheap eats" on the first day of the program and will also be shown the tourist traps to avoid.

London:
It is hard to imagine a more exciting place for SOCAPA's Summer Workshops than Central London with its exhilarating mix of English tradition and cutting-edge modernism. London is host to some of the world's most fascinating museums and exhibition venues for music, film, fashion, photography, theater and dance. Students from all over the world pour into London in the summer to experience all the city has to offer. From its historic architecture and tourist attractions to its world-class cuisine and avant-garde art scene, London is the place to be.

London Heathrow: Preferred Arrival/Departure Times
If you are flying via London Heathrow (LHR) and you would like SOCAPA to provide your airport transfer, please try to arrive between 8:00am - 11am on the first Sunday of the program. Please try to schedule departure between 1:30pm - 5pm on the final Saturday. Flight times outside this window may incur additional transfer fees and/or may require transfer by a third party car service or taxi.

Photo ID Oyster Cards – In-Town Transportation:
We HIGHLY RECOMMEND that all SOCAPA London Residential Students get a London Transport Oyster Photocard which offers huge savings on transportation in London.  Keep in mind that SOCAPA London Students are responsible for their own bus and tube fares even when traveling with the group.  The Oyster Photocard allows 14-15 year olds FREE travel on London Buses and half-price fares on Tube travel; 16-17 year olds get half-price fares on Tube and Bus Networks.  The Oyster Photocard also gets students significant discounts to shows, museums and restaurants throughout London.  Please note that you must Apply for the Oyster Photocard at least one month prior to travel.  We recommend that you get the “Pay as You Go” card with a PrePay amount of £10 per week of attendance (you can always add more money to the card).  When asked the pick-up location for your Oyster Photocard, please choose Euston Station.
