"Simply stupendous! SOCAPA is a milestone of a camp that those who wish to enter the art industry MUST experience for themselves. You learn so much about how to direct, operate a camera, write a wonderful story, dance beautifully and take magnificent pictures. Parents are going to have their kids come home with lots of stories and knowledge that will give them a lot of confidence. Simply put, SOCAPA is AWESOME!! You will not regret a single moment."

SOCAPA MANHATTAN

New York City :: Manhattan Campus
Sessions 1 & 2: Ages 14-16 & 16-18
Session 3 & 4: Ages 16-18 Only

New York City - Manhattan Campus:
SOCAPA's Summer Programs in Manhattan are ideally located in the heart of the Village, the thriving, artistic and educational hub of downtown. Our residence hall, classrooms, studios, theaters and cafeterias are all within walking distance of one another in the vibrant neighborhood between Union Square, Astor Place and Washington Square Park.

New York City has long been a world center of artistic and cultural exploration. SOCAPA is surrounded by exciting locations for film and photo shoots, many of which have been photographed by some of the most famous film directors and photographers of our time. We at SOCAPA feel that New York City is perhaps the world's greatest classroom. We conduct many of our classes and exercises in our favorite parks and take many field trips to museums, studios, shows and screenings.

Housing and Meals:
The modern residence hall features two bedroom suites which house four students, two per room. Rooms are furnished with extra-long twin bed, desk, chair, dresser, and wardrobe. There are shared bathrooms en-suite, stove, refrigerator, dining table & chairs. Amenities include rooms that are wired for Ethernet (need to bring own cable, no WiFi access) and central air conditioning. The dormitory also has student lounges, 24-hour security, card-operated laundry facilities, and a spacious outdoor moon deck.

SOCAPA's meal plan for the Manhattan campus includes a welcome dinner on the town and lunch and dinner in one of our two cafeterias Monday through Friday. Students are responsible for their own breakfasts and weekend meals. Each suite has it's own kitchen so most students shop for basic supplies and eat breakfast in their suites. The area around the dormitory boasts one of the most diverse and reasonably priced concentrations of delis, street vendors, cafés and restaurants anywhere in the world so students have a plethora of choices for weekend meals. Prices can vary from two-dollar falafels and slices of pizza to twelve dollar sit down sushi combo dinners. We make it a point to recommend a wide variety of our favorite New York cheap eats and to encourage our students to try something they can't get at home. We generally recommend a total of $50 dollars to cover weekend meals.

Day Students:
Students who live locally or who have friends/family to stay with in New York City are welcome to attend the program as Day Students. Day Students commute to campus each day and return home each evening and thus do not pay the Room & Board portion of our fees. Depending on the program, most class activities begin at 9am and end at 5pm, Monday through Friday. Day students are welcome (but not required) to attend any of our structured evening and weekend activities.

Facilities:
SOCAPA students attend most classes at our Astor Place studios featuring four dance studios, six classrooms and two blackbox theatres. Our two Mac labs have dozens of Final Cut and Photoshop editing stations along with the full Adobe Creative Suite 5, Microsoft Office, Soundtrack Pro, Screenwriting Software and Lightroom.

Activities:
Where to start? New York provides so much for us to do - there just is not enough time! Some NYC attractions attended previously include Shakespeare in the Park, a live taping at MTV, a Bryant Park Cinema Screening, on and off Broadway shows (Stomp, Fuerza Bruta, Spring Awakening, Avenue Q), and Coney Island Amusement Park. We also take our students out to our favorite restaurants for a few fancy dinners during their stay.
