"My son had a fantastic time in NYC. He loved everything SOCAPA and the city had to offer. You had the perfect amount of structure and independence for him. It was the best summer of his life."

NYC SUPERVISION

Manhattan Campus Supervision:

There are two levels of supervision at the New York Campus, from which families must choose one. Please read the information below carefully and contact the main office to discuss if you have any questions.

Pre-College Program: [ Ages 16 - 18, Available All Sessions in Manhattan ]

Students 16 years or older qualify for the pre-college program. Students in the pre-college program are mature and take personal and group responsibility seriously. They handle increased responsibility and freedom well and are able to follow rules and listen to their supervisors without difficulty. This program is for students who would like to be able to structure their free time more individually to their own interests and needs. We strongly encourage families to discuss proper conduct of the student both during class, planned activities, and free time.

Students in the Pre-College Program:

  • Attend evening meeting immediately after class at approximately 5 pm., allowing them more free time in the evenings to do program work and/or enjoy how they prefer.

  • Participate in a minimum of 3 evening activities per week, allowing more freedom on the other nights to do what they would like (work, go shopping, see a show, catch up on sleep, etc.)

  • May participate in any or all planned activities.

  • Are allowed to sign out and use the subway without a staff supervisor, though they must still adhere to the Buddy System.

  • Must follow SOCAPA's rules and responsibilities as outlined in the Student Handbook

  • Must check-in by 10:30 pm every night.

High School Program: [ Ages 14 - 16, Available Only Sessions 1 & 2 in Manhattan ]
The High School Program level of supervision is ONLY available during Session One and Session Two at our Manhattan Campus (Please see our Brooklyn Campus for more options for 13 - 16 year olds). The High School Program is for all students under 16 years old and any student 16-18 whose family chooses it. The High School Program provides highly structured evening and weekend activities, which are mandatory. During limited amounts of free time, students may sign out to explore the surrounding area, get supplies, scout photo and film locations using the Buddy System. In addition, the Buddy System allows students to have some independence during class time and structured evening/weekend activities, by allowing students to explore limited surrounding areas while still being with the larger group.

Students in the High School Program:

  • Attend 7:00 pm evening meeting nightly.

  • Participate in mandatory evening and weekend activities.

  • Travel on subway with larger group and supervisors.

  • Must follow SOCAPA's rules and responsibilities as outlined in Student Handbook.

  • Must check-in by 10:30 pm every night.

Again, please contact our main office if you have any questions about either of these supervision levels. We encourage you to discuss the option as a family and agree on conduct guidelines prior to arrival.
