"Simply stupendous! SOCAPA is a milestone of a camp that those who wish to enter the art industry MUST experience for themselves. You learn so much about how to direct, operate a camera, write a wonderful story, dance beautifully and take magnificent pictures. Parents are going to have their kids come home with lots of stories and knowledge that will give them a lot of confidence. Simply put, SOCAPA is AWESOME!! You will not regret a single moment."

Champlain's campus is perched in the historic Hill Section, overlooking the breathtaking Lake Champlain and the surrounding Adirondack Mountains. A short walk down the hill and students are immersed in the vibrant arts scene of downtown Burlington. You'll find the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts and the lively, pedestrian Church Street Marketplace, lined with boutiques, shops, art galleries, sidewalk cafes, coffeehouses, a smorgasbord of ethnic eateries, street performers, an indoor mall for rainy days, and movie theaters showing first-run, art and foreign films. A little further down the hill and you are on the shores of spectacular Lake Champlain. The waterfront's Battery Park hosts weekly outdoor rock concerts and North Beach is perfect for swimming, kayaking and sunbathing. Burlington is an ideal summer haven featuring an eclectic mix of cultural, artistic and recreational activities.

Swim SmileSt. Johnsbury Academy and the Northeast Kingdom (Session 4):
Session Four in Vermont (Aug 7 - Aug 18) is hosted at St. Johnsbury Academy, a prestigious boarding school founded in 1842. The Academy is located in the beautiful Northeast Kingdom, renowned for its spectacular scenery and natural resources. Recently named "Best Small Town" in National Geographic Adventure's "Where to live and play" feature, the town of St. Johnsbury is the hub of the Northeast Kingdom just 2 1/2 hours from Montreal and 3 hours from Boston. St. Johnsbury's Main Street is lined with historic 19th century homes, buildings and cultural institutions, an artistic enclave in the middle of pristine natural landscapes - the perfect location for a summer intensive in the arts. Students stay and have all their classes at St. Johnsbury Academy's world class facilities. The recently renovated Charles Hosmer Morse Center for the Arts will host classes in its dance studio, darkrooms, photography studio and 250 seat black box theater.

Housing and Meals:
Residence HallStudents in the overnight program stay in the Champlain College or St. Johnsbury Academy residence houses, restored Victorian-era mansions with fireplaces, large wrap around porches and hi-speed wireless internet. Resident students eat most of their meals in the campus dining hall, but weekly outdoor barbecues and dinners-on-the-town are planned as well. SOCAPA students also have access to the Student Life Center which houses a full-sized gymnasium, fitness center, dining room, student lounge with fireplace and big-screen TV, game room, and an outdoor terrace with full views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks.

Day Students:
Students who live locally or who have friends/family to stay with in Burlington area are welcome to attend the program as Day Students. Day Students commute to campus each day and return home each evening and thus do not pay the Room & Board portion of our fees. Depending on the program, most class activities begin at 9am and end at 5pm, Monday through Friday. Day students are welcome (but not required) to attend any of our structured evening and weekend activities.

Facilities:

The classroom and tech facilities at Champlain College are among the best we've seen in the nation. The MacPro Editing labs used by the Photography and Filmmaking Programs feature thirty individual stations loaded with Final Cut Pro, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign), Flash, Dreamweaver, ImageReady, Fireworks, Maya and many others. Just down the hall are state-of-the-art photography facilities and a large gang darkroom with ten enlargers. Movie nights and the final showcase festival take place in the Alumni Auditorium Theater which seats two-hundred.
