At SOCAPA, small groups of dancers mentor under master choreographers to develop and learn complex, innovative choreography and bring that choreography to life in a one-of-a-kind, on-location dance video, complete with a professional film crew to make it happen.

With an emphasis on technique development and choreography, SOCAPA's summer dance camps encourage young dancers to explore dance in a way they may never have before and to grow their technique, their confidence and their love of dance through rigorous training, insightful movement workshops and a non-competitive dance experience. . . like no other!

"My 15yr daughter attended the 1 week dance intensive last year. The dancing was incredible and all of the kids became great friends. They mix the different talents up in the rooming assignments, which allows all of the groups to interact. Finally the evening activities really allowed the kids to experience NYC. We have already reserved a spot for the 2019 camp!"

"My daughter has traveled for Socapa's dance sessions for the past 3 years from Istanbul, Turkey and she cant wait for her her final 4th summer next year before she heads for college scholar programs. Socapa New York has offered her experience beyond the dance training. She has met beautiful friends, worked with extremely qualified instructors. The professional setting and dance shoots has been a great exposure which she cannot get anywhere else. Also, the online portfolio will be very handy when it comes to college aplications. I as a mother would not think twice when recommending."

CHOOSE YOUR INTENSIVE...

SOCAPA offers three separate Dance intensives that vary in length, level and focus. For experienced Dancers (Intermediate to Advanced) who are new to SOCAPA, we recommend FUSION DANCE — our most popular intensive! — which has two and three week options. If your time with us is limited, pick a focus of either Contemporary or Hip-Hop in our one-week DANCE BOOT CAMP (Beginner to Intermediate). For return SOCAPA Dancers who are at the Advanced to Preprofessional level, we have our DANCE CONSERVATORY intensive.

Teen Dancer During Make-up & Costume Session

Take makeup and costuming classes.

Bring dance to the screen with costuming, make-up and a video dance experience like no other. From a Dumbo loft to the Venice beach boardwalk, perform on location with a professional film crew.

"With the explosion of video dance providing opportunities for commercial and amateur dancers alike, it’s important that dancers understand the technical requirements of dancing on camera... SOCAPA lessons include absorbing lessons in onscreen performance... adapting to unusual dance environments... and understanding the boldness required when performing for the back row of an audience vs the subtlety necessary when a camera is inches from your face."

MASTER CHOREOGRAPHY

“Dance is the hidden language of the soul.”
Martha Graham

Speak the language that is unique to only you through your body and your dance. Find yourself a part of a greater whole, moving in sync and rhythm with the group, balanced with the individual expression you bring to the dance like no one else can.

Expand your movement vocabulary through learning original choreography from the choreographer themselves. When you dance a new work you are part of bringing a vision to life. You will find yourself energized and motivated to push yourself and try new things, the essence of inspiration in action.

Our Master Choreographers create unique pieces that showcase and complement the individual dancers in the programs. Learning directly from the choreographer, dancers gain insight into the process and purpose behind each piece.

Understanding why and how a piece of choreography came to life helps infuse meaning and a sense of ownership for the dancers who have the chance to present that piece to the world for the very first time.

Students are collaborators in the creation of the group piece and can turn around and use what they've learned to create their own, student choreography. Learn from the masters and let your own work speak for you and for itself.

Mikhail Baryshnikov

SOCAPA was founded by a culturally and artistically diverse collective of New York City artists and that's the way we run our camps. SOCAPA fosters an accepting and nurturing culture of creativity and collaboration that allows students to be themselves and to express themselves. Collaborate with SOCAPA's four other programs and make friends with and learn from young minds from around the world.
