Summer Camp Jobs & Employment Opportunities

SOCAPA accepts applications for highly motivated resident supervisors, teachers and counselors to staff our summer programs on an ongoing basis. All applicants must be legally permitted to work in the United States before applying.

Dates: SOCAPA summer programs are active from June 13 – August 10. Exact dates of employment vary by program, campus and position.

Salary: Salary is based on qualifications and experience.

Housing: SOCAPA provides room & board for our residential, full-time employees. You may indicate whether or not you need room & board on the application.

When will I be contacted? SOCAPA will contact you between March and May if you are selected for an interview. Interviews will be held in March, April, and May in New York, Los Angeles & Burlington, VT.

Counselors

Applicants should be at least twenty-one years old and have leadership experience working with teenagers (ages 13-18) at a camp or other residential setting. First Aid, CPR, Lifeguard Training, clean Driver’s License and Mac Computer Skills a plus. Please indicate if you are interested in a DAY COUNSELOR position or a RESIDENTIAL COUNSELOR position.

Residential Counselors

Residential counselors are an integral part of SOCAPA's day-to-day programming. RAs are assigned a group or a floor of students in each session, and are the first-contact for when campers have questions about meals, schedules, roommate issues, illness, and more. Working as a part of a team under the Resident Director's leadership, RAs organize and supervise evening and weekend activities, coordinate student transportation, and are on call to assist with medical or other emergencies. During the day, RAs assist in classes or on shoots as Teaching Assistants, or assist with office tasks/activity preparation. Applicants should have strong leadership skills, a positive work ethic, and the ability to work well collaboratively. Enthusiasm for the job, high energy and adaptability are essential for the position. Applicants must be at least 21 years old.

Day Counselors

SOCAPA's Day Counselors assist with student transportation on trips or as students arrive/depart camp, and provide additional supervision as needed. Day counselors who are not teaching assistants typically work flexible schedules with more limited hours than our residential counselors.

Teaching Assistants

Our Teaching Assistants work closely with the Program Instructors to support their classroom objectives. Applicants should review our site to see what the students will be covering and feel confident that they know the content material themselves. Applicants should be at least 21 years old and should have strong leadership skills. Applicants should have completed at least two years of study in a university drama, dance, music, film production or photography program.

Program Instructor

Candidates should have a BFA degree in their field (MFA candidates preferred) and be able to teach at least two of the subjects listed below their program:

FILM

Cinematography, Adobe Premiere, Screenwriting, Producing & Directing.

ACTING

Acting for the Camera, Scene Study and Method/Meisner Acting Technique.

DANCE

Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical, Hip-hop.

PHOTOGRAPHY

35mm Darkroom Technique, Photoshop/Lightroom, Studio Portrait Lighting, Fine Art and Documentary Photography.

MUSIC

Music Theory, Music Business/Management, Music Production Technology, Song Writing, Guitar/Piano/Bass/Drums.

Resident Director

The Resident Director lives on campus and is in charge of the daily resident life aspects of the program. The RD is responsible for the safety, health, and well-being of the students and the resident life staff. The RD plans, organizes and executes the evening and weekend activities and all non-programmatic activities. The RD provides assistance to the Campus Director as needed.

Candidate should have at least two years Resident Life experience or have similar camp leadership training and experience. Should love teens and be able to develop a strong and respectful rapport with them quickly. Should be fun, but firm, and be able to multi-task. Candidate should have strong Mac computer skills, and be very comfortable with Google Docs. Organization, detail orientation, and creativity a must. Problem solving and quick thinking are essential. First Aid and CPR training required. Lifeguard Training a plus.

Program Coordinator

The Program Coordinator assists the Campus Director with the smooth running of the logistics on Campus. The PC oversees the daily program schedule, staff schedule, room reservations, tickets, meals, and more. The PC is responsible for managing and coordinating student travel to and from camp for classes, trips, and on check in and check out days. The PC manages the office and the intake and registration process.

This candidate is extremely well organized, quick on their feet, and has great customer service skills. Computer skills, preferably Mac, and knowledge of Excel are a must. The ability to multi-task while paying attention to details is necessary. Candidates will have excellent follow-through, strong communication skills, and a general positive attitude.

Campus Director

The Campus Director lives on campus and oversees the day to day functioning of the programs. The Campus Director of each SOCAPA campus is in charge of the overall program; hiring, training, scheduling and overseeing staff. The Campus Director is the face of the program and manages the relations with the host university, the parents, and the teachers. The Campus Director is responsible for the health, safety, and well-being of the students and staff and ensures the smooth running of the summer intensives. The Campus Director reports directly to the Director of Summer Programs and works closely with the Creative Director, the Resident Director, and the directors of each art program.

Candidates for the position should enjoy and have experience with teenagers. They must have strong organizational skills, excellent communication and customer service skills, and strong leadership and staff management skills. Candidates must be able to plan ahead, be flexible, trouble shoot, and respond well in crisis situations. A clean driver's license is required. Strong computer skills, preferably Mac, and knowledge of Excel are necessary. A visual or performing arts background, resident life experience, and teaching experience are all preferred. First Aid, CPR, and Lifeguard training a plus.
