Michael Patrick Kane is a NY-based actor who received his MFA in Acting from Harvard University. He has experience working in theater, studio films, national commercials, web-series and television pilots. In theater Michael's experience ranges from Shakespeare in the Park to the National Tour of The Miracle Worker. On-screen credits include The Judge (2014), Saving Borshia (2015), and Central Intelligence (2016).

Description

Whether you are performing for hundreds on a Broadway stage or for a web camera in your living room, the fundamentals of acting are the same. Core Acting explores these tenants in a relaxed group atmosphere. Students devise original work through audio and visual mediums, learn improv techniques, study movement/voice as an expressive tool, and design and build puppets. Comparative to university style course, Core Acting also introduces online audition techniques, has Q&A sessions with professional actors, directors and casting agents, and covers higher education admission procedures. Most importantly, students make connections with fellow classmates and create lasting creative friendships.

Recommended Gear - Home Acting Studio

A room to create in
Students will essentially be creating their own studio for this class. It will be super helpful to have a neutral looking space that students can move about in and be active with the Monitor/web camera able to shoot the whole body at times. Good lighting is key! Back lit windows are a killer.
Computer setup
Make sure you have a monitor and web camera mounted on the top center of it. A computer screen works but the larger the screen the better. Working microphone, either internal in your computer or external. Headphones or earbuds. Be sure to test your setup prior to the first class.
Home art supplies
Masking tape; Access to cardboard; Scissors; Markers; pastels or paints. Nothing fancy needed, just some home art supplies.
Maskings

Clothes to move in
clothes with little to no logos on them to be active in.
