Watch for acting Alum DeRon Horton in Netflix's new series, Dear White People! Based on Justin Simien's 2014 film, the 10-episode first season follows "students of color [who] navigate the daily slights and slippery politics of life at an Ivy League college that's not nearly as 'post-racial' as it thinks." New York Times reviewer James Poniewozik believes that the TV series surpasses the film it is based on, saying "The movie was audacious, irreverent and feisty, with a feel for the tripwires of a supposedly postracial era. It also sometimes felt spread thin by trying to represent a broad range of experiences. The series fleshes out its characters by using its extra time well and embracing the episodic structure of TV."
